Best Chicken Dishes Tagged in DishCue (2026): 5 Badged Picks Across California
No roundup guesses here. Every dish below was actually tagged by the DishCue community, badges and all — from La Jolla to Irvine to Westminster. This is what people really ate and bothered to mark.
Today's earlier post ranked San Diego's best fried chicken sandwiches, and it ended on an honest gap: not one of those five sandwiches is tagged in DishCue yet. So here is the flip side of that post. Instead of naming great dishes and hoping the app catches up, this list starts from what the community already marked. If a dish is here, somebody ate it, opened the app, and said so with a badge.
One rule change from the sandwich ranking: this list is not San Diego-only. The badges landed where they landed, so the list follows them — La Jolla, Mira Mesa, Irvine, Westminster — and every dish's city is named. The badge is the topic. The map is just where it took us.
The quick list: #1 Truffle Udon Carbonara Katsu Chicken at JOEY La Jolla, #2 Roasted Chicken at Solstice in Irvine, #3 BBQ Chicken at Knockout Pizza in Mira Mesa, #4 Crispy Pineapple Orange Chicken at Chef Fei in La Jolla, #5 Chicken Thigh Skewer at Nok's Kitchen in Westminster. Now, the cases — and the badges that earned each slot.
Truffle Udon Carbonara Katsu Chicken @ JOEY La Jolla — La Jolla, San Diego
The only dish on this list with two Must Trys, and that alone would put it at #1. But the dish itself earns the spot too: crispy katsu chicken over udon folded through a truffle carbonara. It is the kind of mashup that sounds like a dare and eats like a plan — fried cutlet crunch against a rich, silky noodle. Two separate people gave it the app's strongest verdict. That is the closest thing DishCue has to a consensus, and it happens to be fried chicken. Close enough to today's theme, and then some.
⭐ Must Try ×2
Roasted Chicken @ Solstice Seasonal Kitchen & Bar — Irvine
Orange County's entry, and the quiet one. Solstice (18555 Jamboree Rd, Irvine) is a seasonal New American room where the menu turns with the harvest, and its roasted chicken — listed as a roasted half chicken — picked up a Must Try from somebody who clearly was not there for the scene. Roast chicken is the dish restaurants use to prove they can cook, and a Must Try on the simplest thing on the menu says more than a Must Try on a showpiece.
⭐ Must Try ×1
BBQ Chicken @ Knockout Pizza — Mira Mesa, San Diego
The wild card, and my favorite kind of badge story. Knockout Pizzeria (6755 Mira Mesa Blvd) is a New York-style pizza shop, and somebody went there, ordered the BBQ chicken, and marked it Addictive — the badge that means you will crave it again. Not the pizza. The chicken. That is a person who found the thing on the menu nobody talks about and decided it was the thing. Those are exactly the tags DishCue exists for.
💣 Addictive ×1
Crispy Pineapple Orange Chicken @ Chef Fei — La Jolla, San Diego
Chef Fei (4301 La Jolla Village Dr, Westfield UTC) is the first US location of a Chinese stir-fry chain with 200-plus locations back home, and its crispy pineapple orange chicken — about $22 — is the crowd-pleaser of the menu. The badge here is a Thumbs Up, the app's workhorse verdict: it delivered. Crispy, sweet-tart, the familiar entry point to a menu that also runs to Hunan offal. If you want one safe first order at a new room, this is the shape of it.
👍 Thumbs Up ×1
Chicken Thigh Skewer @ Nok's Kitchen — Westminster
The furthest stop on this list and the most-favorited chicken dish of the five, with two favorites on top of its badges. Nok's Kitchen (9361 Bolsa Ave, Westminster) is a Lao kitchen, and a chicken thigh skewer with a Thumbs Up and a Comfort Food badge reads like somebody's regular order — the thing they get every time, the thing that tastes like a place that knows them. Comfort Food is the badge I trust most on a list like this. Anybody can be impressed once. Comfort takes repeats.
👍 Thumbs Up ×1 · 🤗 Comfort Food ×1
What This List Proves (and What It Doesn't)
It proves the app's chicken shelf is real but thin — five dishes with real badges, spread across four cities, and exactly one of them (the katsu) carries more than a single badge. That thinness is the point, not a flaw to hide. Every list built from badges gets better as more people tag, which is the whole flywheel: more tagging, richer lists, more reasons to open the app.
It does not prove these are the five best chicken dishes in California. It proves they are the five chicken dishes the community has spoken for so far. The next great chicken dish on this list is whichever one you tag next — and yes, that includes the five fried chicken sandwiches from this morning, still sitting untagged, still waiting for somebody to go first.
Chicken Dish FAQs
What does a badge mean in DishCue?
A badge is a community verdict on a dish, not a star rating. Must Try means order it, Addictive means you will crave it again, Thumbs Up means it delivered. Every badge on this list was dropped by a real user on a real dish.
Which chicken dish has the most badges?
The Truffle Udon Carbonara Katsu Chicken at JOEY La Jolla, with two Must Try badges. It is the only chicken dish in the app with a double Must Try, which makes it the closest thing the community has to a consensus pick.
Are all five dishes in San Diego?
No. Three are San Diego (two in La Jolla, one in Mira Mesa), one is in Irvine, and one is in Westminster. This list follows the badges wherever they landed, and each dish's city is named.
Why aren't the fried chicken sandwiches from today's ranking on this list?
Because none of them are tagged in DishCue yet. This list only includes dishes the community has actually tagged. The five sandwiches from the earlier ranking are still waiting for their first badge, and that first Must Try is up for grabs.
How do I tag a dish in DishCue?
Open the app, add the dish with a photo, and drop a badge on it. Posting a dish earns 25 points, dropping a badge on someone else's dish earns 10, and every favorite you receive earns 5. Ranks run from Newbie to Legend.

Tag It in DishCue 📱
Every dish above got here because somebody tagged it. That is the whole mechanism, and it only works if the next person does the same:
⭐ Must Try · 💣 Addictive · 👍 Thumbs Up · 🤗 Comfort Food
Tag the dish, not the restaurant. Earn points, climb from Newbie to Legend, and put the next chicken dish on this list. Start with the obvious gap: the five fried chicken sandwiches from this morning are still untagged. Go be first.
So tell us: which of these five deserves a second badge first — the katsu, the roast, the BBQ chicken, the crispy orange, or the skewer? 👇
